Avantgarde appoints Karl Sponholz as Chief Product & Technology Officer

Growth Story
Avantgarde

Munich, April 21, 2021 –  With Karl Sponholz, Avantgarde is expanding the company with a strong manager from the technology sector who will play a key role in the development and expansion of the new “Digital Products & Solutions” division. The digital team is currently developing customized solutions for customers. The next step for the brand experience experts is to establish a separate division for digital solutions with white label potential, independent of the project business.

In his new role at the Avantgarde location in Berlin, Sponholz will build and develop a team of ten; he will report directly to CEO Martin Schnaack. The 35-year-old is exactly the right person for this task: during his career to date, he has gained valuable experience in building successful customer experiences for Avantgarde – both in the high-traffic B2C and B2B sectors in various industries. Sponholz comes from the Berlin fintech Spotcap, which he helped to build up with investments from Rocket Internet and most recently managed as Chief Operating Officer (COO). Prior to this, he worked for several years at the US discount portal Groupon in Berlin, Palo Alto and Chicago. In recent years, Groupon has developed into an e-commerce marketplace for special experiences at lucrative prices. In addition to a Master of Science, Sponholz has a particular penchant for technology, innovation and disruptive product development through the use of state-of-the-art systems such as AI and machine learning.

Karl Sponholz, Chief Product & Technology Officer: “I am delighted to be working with the experts at Avantgarde to revolutionize the experience economy, which has not yet been digitized. I see huge potential here. By using modern technologies, such as AI-supported video analysis or augmented reality, we will create innovative products that will give our customers an unprecedented quality of experience.”
