Brainlab makes efficient medical treatments possible.

Brainlab develops, produces and sells software-supported medical technology for precise, minimally invasive surgical procedures. Its core competencies are information-guided surgery, radiosurgery, precision radiotherapy and digital networking for the exchange of information and knowledge between doctors in the OR. Founder and CEO Stefan Vilsmeier talks about his company:

How and when did you come up with the idea for your company and the products?

It all started at the age of 15, when I got my first computer. By the time I turned 16, I started writing a book about 3D software. After an invitation to the Universitätklinik Wien, the idea for Brainlab was born.

What exactly does Brainlab do?

If you ask a software developer at Brainlab, what they do for a living, most would answer: I am not just coding, I am also curing cancer. In its core, Brainlab digitizes the anatomy of patients. Based on this digital model surgeons can plan, simulate and execute surgeries with higher precision.

Where are Brainlab technologies used?

Today, 5,000 hospitals around the globe use our technologies. In modern medicine, individual and isolated solutions are prevalent everywhere. At Brainlab, we strive to become the operating system of the operating room to ensure that in three to five years every patient in need for surgery will massively benefit from our technologies. For this purpose, we not only offer our technologies to strategic partners, but also invite competitors.

How do you see the future development of Brainlab?

Cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and robotics, offer great opportunities to rapidly transform and develop our solutions even further. The possibilities are limitless.
